Chinese New Year Event

Hanley firefighters will this Saturday be taking part in the Chinese New Year Celebrations at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in the City Centre.

Firefighters from Orange Watch will be at the event, from 10.30am until 4pm, where they will be providing members of the public with top tips on how to keep safe during festivities. In light of ‘National Chip Week’ this week crews will also be staging a wok frying pan demonstration at the event to show just how easy it is to cause a fire in your kitchen when cooking.

"Over of half of home fires are caused as a result of a cooking accidents, and we are keen to provide our community with as much information as possible to ensure they are safe in their homes. The event is expected to attract a lot of people from around the City and so it is also a great opportunity for people to book their Home Fire Risk Check."

Risk Reduction Officer, Rehana Iqbal

Last week firefighters also visited a local Chinese supermarket where they gave out safety advice ahead of Chinese New Year celebrations which took place on Sunday.
