Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service - Preventing, Protecting, Responding

Man Dies After Car Smash

A young man has died following a three-car smash near Cannock.

Appliances from Cannock, Chase Terrace and Brewood, along with the rescue tender from Stafford, were sent to the incident on the Orbital Ring Road at 10.46pm last night.

"Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of all involved."

John Lawrie, Station Manager

Supported by a West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service crew, firefighters worked to extricate four people trapped in the vehicles. The north bound carriageway was closed.

Station Manager, John Lawrie, said: "The extrications were particularly difficult because of the severe damage to the vehicles. Specialist equipment had to be used.

"The calm and professional approach of all the emergency services agencies involved ensured the three casualties were released and transported to hospital safely.

"Unfortunately on this occasion we were unable to help one young person who sadly suffered fatal injuries. Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of all involved.

"The roads can be particularly dangerous at this time of year and we would ask all drivers to enjoy your car and the camaraderie of your friends but drive responsibly.

"Slow down and ensure you all go home safe at the end of the night."
