Fire at Tamworth hospital under investigation

An investigation into the cause of a fire at a large mental health facility in Tamworth is currently underway.

The cause of this fire has not been determined yet but a fire investigation in now underway and we are working closely with our partners at West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service and Staffordshire Police, along with staff from the medical centre.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to The George Bryan Centre on Plantation Lane at 8.52pm last night (Monday, February 11) with reports of a serious blaze. At the height of the incident 10 pumps were in attendance including the Aerial Ladder Platform from Longton. 

The incident was split into three sectors and crews wore four sets of breathing apparatus and used three main jets along with two hose reel jets to put out the fire. 

Group Manager Toby Wilson said: “This was a significant incident which led to the evacuation of approximately 20 people. The cause of this fire has not been determined yet but a fire investigation in now underway and we are working closely with our partners at West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service and Staffordshire Police, along with staff from the medical centre. 

“Firefighters from Tamworth are still at the scene damping down and checking for hot spots. We are expecting to be at the scene for some time today.”
