Arson attack extinguished by firefighters

Firefighters have extinguished a house fire in Tamworth which was started deliberately.

We were called to Kirtley, Glascote, at 12.05am this morning (Sunday 29 January) after a witness spotted smoke and flames coming from the building.

Crews from Tamworth, Lichfield and Tamworth Mercia were sent to tackle the blaze – equipped with breathing apparatus and hose reel jets.

By 12.45am, the fire had been brought under control and we began investigating alongside our colleagues at Staffordshire Police.

The inside of the building was badly damaged by excess smoke and the electric has been made safe by Western Power.

No one was injured.

At this stage, we believe the fire was started deliberately. The front door had been set alight which spread to the inside of the address.

An investigation alongside Staffordshire Police is ongoing.
