Crews extinguish store building fire near flat block

We have extinguished a fire that started in a storage room next to a block of flats in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Local crews were sent to the scene shortly after 7.45pm last night (Tuesday 5 November) when someone reported a fire on Ravenscliffe Road in Kidsgrove.

Our colleagues from Staffordshire Police also went to the scene.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to tackle the fire, which was contained inside a storage room that was detached from the main flat block.

Seven flats were evacuated by crews as a precaution while the incident was brought under control.

The British Red Cross and Newcastle Borough Council also assisted in ensuring the wellbeing of the residents.

Thankfully, no-one was injured.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined.
