Crews tackle farm fire involving large quantity of straw

Crews have extinguished a fire on a farm in Newcastle-under-Lyme involving a large quantity of straw.

Multiple crews went to Moat Lane in Bignall End just after 7.30pm on Saturday (28 September), following reports of a large plume of smoke and flames.

Due to smoke in the area, nearby residents were urged to close their doors and windows as a precaution while firefighters worked to contain the blaze at the scene.

By 9.45pm, the fire was under control and damping down commenced.

Firefighters remained at the scene over the weekend and today to ensure no hotspots were left over.

Thankfully, no one was injured.

Our colleagues from Staffordshire Police also attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is still being determined.
