A fire at a golf course in Stoke-on-Trent has been extinguished by firefighters.

At about 8am today (Monday 8 July), we were called to reports of a fire inside a restaurant at Greenway Hall Golf Club, on Stanley Road, Stockton Brook.

A number of crews went to the scene to tackle to the fire safely and effectively. No-one was injured.

Once it was extinguished, fire investigators determined that the cause was accidental whereby cloths ignited after being tumble dried.

Watch Manager, Matt Jones, said: “We ask that businesses with large volumes of washing, such as hospitality, take care with laundry as fires can occur when dried items are left in piles or bags ready for re-use.

“This can happen when hot items that come out of the dryer have not been cooled down fully before folding or packing and the heat builds up and ignites.

“Always allow the dryer to go through its ‘cool down’ cycle before unloading the machine and allow the laundry to air and cool properly before storing.”
