Fire crews promote professional firework and bonfire displays for safest night out
As Bonfire Night and Diwali is just around the corner, our fire crews are reminding people of the best ways to keep themselves and others safe by attending professionally-organised events.
We know that this time of year is an opportunity for friends, family and communities to get together to celebrate the changing seasons.
Most people enjoy Bonfire Night and Diwali responsibly, however, some put themselves and others at risk.
We are working with our colleagues at Staffordshire Police to ensure as many people as possible attend professionally organised firework and bonfire displays.
Carmel Warren, Partnership and Intervention Manager at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Bonfire Night, Diwali and the days before and after, are traditionally one of our busiest periods.
“We want the public to enjoy themselves, but we also want to highlight how important it is to be aware of the risks. We are, therefore, urging the public to attend professionally-organised displays. These are much safer with less likelihood of injuries.
“If you do decide to celebrate at home with your own fireworks or bonfire, please plan carefully and take extra care.”
If you are hosting or attending a private display, firefighters strongly recommend that you:
- Follow the firework code – visit Bonfire night safety (staffordshirefire.gov.uk)
- Store fireworks in a locked and secure container
- Never drink alcohol if you are responsible for a display
- Make sure a safe distance is maintained.
