Fire in outbuilding extinguished in Knypersley

We have extinguished a fire that started in a wooden shed in Knypersley.
Crews were called at around 3pm on Friday (14 March) to reports of a fire in the back garden of a house on Lodge Barn Road.
A total of three crews attended the scene and used breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and dampen down hot spots.
Following an inspection, we determined the cause of the fire was accidental, caused by a faulty internal heating system.
In order to minimise the danger, below is guidance for heating homes safely:
- Never leave portable heaters unattended
- Never leave portable heaters on whilst sleeping
- Ensure that they are positioned well away from anything which could knock them over
- Ensure they are at least a metre away from any combustible materials, such as paper or curtains
- Never buy second hand halogen heaters
- Never power a halogen heater from an extension lead – these can easily be overloaded and cause fires
- Regularly inspect your heater for damage. If it’s damaged, don’t use it
We’re running a campaign called Get Out, Stay Out in an effort to raise awareness in Staffordshire over the dangers of going back into the scene of a fire.
