Firefighters attend accidental fatal house fire
A man has sadly died following an accidental house fire in Stoke-on-Trent.
We were alerted that smoke was seen coming out of a house on Glenwood Close, Longton, just before 10.45am on Friday (1 March).
The fire had been extinguished before we got there.
A man in his 90s was found unresponsive inside. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Station Manager Ben Woodward said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family, friends and neighbours at this tragic and difficult time. A fire investigation has established that the fire was started accidentally.
“Unfortunately, those aged over 80 are at a greater risk of falling victim to accidental fires and can find it difficult to get to safety in time.
“Our prevent and protect teams are keen to visit those most at risk in the local community to help find the hazards in their home and prevent the chances of another tragedy happening.”
