Firefighters extinguish grass fire in Upper Hulme

We have extinguished a large grass fire that started on a field in Upper Hulme.

Crews were called to Hazelwood Road at 3.40pm on Friday (14 March) following reports of a fire covering around 200 square metres.

A total of six crews attended the scene and used beaters and backpacks to extinguish the fire by 5.30pm.

As we enter the drier months, we urge everyone to take care on moorland:

  • No bonfires or disposable BBQs – even a small spark can ignite disaster
  • Check your chimneys - ensure they’re swept to prevent stray embers
  • Be responsible - take all rubbish home, and never discard cigarettes or glass on the moors.
  • If you find a fire in the countryside don’t attempt to tackle it, call 999 and ask for the fire service immediately.
