Local community invited to family open day at fire station
We are hosting a fun-filled family open day at Newcastle Community Fire Station.
On Saturday 7 September, between 11am and 4pm, local crews will be opening its doors to members of the public of all ages.
Entry is completely free and there’s something there for everyone in the family to enjoy, including live demonstrations on the work we do each day and the opportunity to meet the people who are proudly serving the public in Staffordshire.
Specialist fire appliances, including our new aerial ladder platform, will be on show while firefighters will demonstrate rope rescues and extrication techniques that are used in road traffic collisions.
Fair rides, inflatable assault courses, a penalty shoot-out and the opportunity to try out a fire hose will also be on offer.
Children can also sign up to join the service’s Welephant Club and meet the trusty mascot in person.
Refreshments will also be on offer, with all the money raised on the day going to The Fire Fighters Charity – forming part of our commitment to raise £50,000 for the charity as part of our 50th anniversary as an organisation.
For those considering a career with us, there will also be a stand where firefighters will be on hand to talk to people about the opportunities available, including on-call.
Station Manager Mark Tattum, said: “Events like this are a fantastic way for the community to see what we do to keep people safe and to meet the firefighters working daily in Staffordshire.
“There’s a range of activities for everyone to enjoy and I really hope to see people there, having a good time, engaging with local crews and enjoying a day out with other members of the community.
“We’re really excited to welcome you all.”
