Retired firefighter relaunches successful poppy campaign to raise money

A retired firefighter has relaunched his efforts to raise money for the Royal British Legion in the build-up to Remembrance Day this year.

Kelvin Chell, who served Staffordshire communities over a 50-year career and has raised more than £500,000 for charity across his lifetime, has started his efforts to help raise money for the Royal British Legion.

Poppies are being sold for £3.50 across a number of different locations across the county, with 10 specially-designed poppies included with bespoke Staffordshire designs.

Last year, Kelvin raised £14,500 for the Royal British Legion in a similar campaign, and he’s hoping to raise more money this year in the build-up to Remembrance Day on Sunday 10 November.

Kelvin said: “It’s been so pleasing to see so many members of our communities already supporting the campaign and helping us to raise funds for such an important cause.

“These poppies, particularly those with unique designs, have been so popular in the past that we’ve not had enough to sell. It goes to show how much people in Staffordshire want to contribute to positive causes, and for that, I’m really grateful.

“Please do come along and help us to raise much needed funds for a cause that provides lifelong support to serving and ex-personnel of our Armed Forces.”
