Two people rescued from accidental house fire

We have rescued two people from a property fire which started accidentally in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
We were called at 1pm on Monday (24 February) to a property on Birch Road in Wood Lane following reports of a fire.
Fire control gave fire survival guidance prior to the arrival of fire crews, who then extinguished the fire and ventilated the property using a positive pressure ventilation and rescued two females from the property. They both went to hospital for precautionary checks.
The fire was deemed to be accidental as a result of a fire in the electrical consumer unit.
We are reminding people to ensure their home appliances are in safe working order, especially during the colder weather.
It's important that you:
⦁ Use the right power supply for any appliance and do not overload plug sockets.
⦁ Only purchase and use appliances that are suitably accredited with a British or European safety mark
⦁ Never leave appliances running while you are asleep or out
⦁ Regularly check your smoke detector is in good working order
⦁ Plan an escape route with your family so you know how to exit your property if you do encounter a fire in the home.
